Reille attempts to seek balance in keeping with her upbringing studying white magic, however her impatience and short temper often interfere with true impartiality. She can be feisty and passionate about what she believes.After leaving behind a several year military career Reille is distrustful of governing establishments and military institutions. Despite her mistrust she believes these institutions are a necessary evil and the only way to hold them accountable is to remain involved.As part of her military training she is skilled and capable of wielding both a sword, bow, and lance. Reille's calling however is to conjury and white magic and she will always resort to magic when given the option.A true child of Gridania Reille prefers to spend her time outdoors and in nature. While she is clever and fond of reading she is scornful of academia and learning without any practical experience. In addition to white magic Reille has also studied botany, alchemy, and considers herself a hobbyist artist. She keeps a small leather bound sketchbook of charcoal and watercolor sketches of plants, animals, and places she has seen.

Background

Reille was born in Bentbranch Meadow to a reprobate Ishgardian merchant, Gerard, and the unmarried daughter of a Ishgardian noble. Reille was raised by her father who took work as a traveling merchant. By the time she was four years of age it was apparent that Reil had the rare gift of hearing the Elementals of the Twelveswood. Gerard sought the help of the Conjurer's Guild as he possessed no magical skills and little understanding of Gridanian magical traditions.As Reille’s gift for speaking with the Elementals grew, her father left her more and more at the Conjurer’s Guild in Gridania. When Gerard did not return for his adolescent daughter she was adopted by E-Sumi-Yan and the guild.While E-Sumi-Yan has a firm and gentle instructing style with most of his students, in his role as surrogate parent he was often exasperated by Reille’s defiance and proclivity for trouble making. As the elezen girl aged her disagreements with E-Sumi-Yan became frequent and her rebellions more drastic.As soon as she was of age Reille enlisted in the Order of the Twin Adder where she reached the rank of second class sergeant. Reille participated in the Battle of Carteneau, where she was one of the few survivors of her squadron and refuses to speak of it to this day. After the Calamity Reille resigned her commission at the first opportunity and left Gridania. Reille traveled Eorzea finding work as a freelance mercenary healer most often working for merchant caravans or protecting rich lordlings who fancied themselves adventurers.Suffering from the trauma of the Calamity and despondent at the greed of the world outside The Black Shroud Reille found herself at her lowest place. In her grief Reille heard the voices of the Elementals after several years of silence. Reille returned to The Black Shroud to find the Elementals in a weakened state and vulnerable poachers. Dissatisfied with the lack of defenses Reille to took it upon herself to supersede the guidance of the Seedseers and wield the justice of the Elementals in her own hands. Reille began her secret career as the vigilante The Red Rose where she targeted poachers in the forest and black markets operating in the area.While investigating a mysterious criminal organization in Old Gridania Reille was, perhaps not wrongly, charged with arson. Wanted by Wood Wailers and the target of hit men Reille sought asylum in Ishgard. Reille found an ally and a friend in the nephew of a High House noble. Reille spent the next few years of her life learning and navigating the intricacies of Ishgard culture and intrigues. She made her way as a freelance officer, a trainer in the Temple Knights, and sometimes a spy.Whilst adventuring in the Churning Mist aiding the Pomguard Reille discovered lonely grave and the remains of a long deceased Ishgardian Knight. Amongst the bones Reille found an engraved jobstone which she picked up and started carrying on her person. Since acquiring the jobstone Reille has acquired both the skills and memories of a long ago exiled and disgraced Ishgardian dragoon.After several years of biding her time and accruing favors Reille was able to gather enough evidence to clear her name in Gridania.At E-Sumi-Yan’s behest Reille returned to Gridania and resumed working with the Conjurer’s Guild. While Reille and E-Sumi-Yan still quarreled with one another their disagreements are now light-hearted in nature. Maturity has granted Reil understanding and gratitude for E-Sumi-Yan's role in her upbringing.After returning to Gridania Reille began operating as a freelancer mercenary and field medic for Heartwood Ventures and renting a room in their boarding house. During her tenure at Heartwood Ventures Reille assisted with the physical rehabilitation of an orphaned Black Shroud Keeper of the Moon child, Rihri, and her brother Ohrihi'ya. Empathic to the two miqo'te children's situation Reille adopted them and relocated to the Vashai clan deep in the forest.Now that her found family is settling into clan life Reille has resumed her mercenary contracts and is available for hire again.
